What a save can't tell us
Some numbers only exist while the game is running: popularity, taste satisfaction, equipment and hourly customer traffic. They are left out. Satisfaction and stars are recalculated with the formulas from the game code.
How the game works (from the game code)
How customer satisfaction is calculated
Satisfaction = 0.9 × (value weight × value + rarity weight × rarity + price weight × price factor) + 0.1 for each local favorite tag the dish has
- Value = calories ÷ price, so cheaper is better (bargain-minded groups care more)
- Rarity = the ingredients' rarity added up (rarity-minded groups care a lot)
- Price factor: 0.5–1 while the price fits the customer's daily budget, 0 as soon as it goes over
- Dish tags = all of its ingredients' tags; swapping ingredients can add a local favorite
How customers pick a venue and a dish
- They pick a venue at random, weighted by its popularity with their group. Distance barely matters.
- Inside, they pick at random among the dishes and drinks that are in stock and less than 30 points below the best item on the menu. Items further behind are never ordered by that group.
- If the pick is a dish, there's an 80% chance they also add a drink from the same shortlist. If a drink is the best item for a group, some of its customers order only that drink.
Review stars (level-ups use the average)
Stars = 0.5 × (2.5 × taste satisfaction + 1.5 × meal quality + 1 × freshness) + service quality + 0.75 × cleanliness + 0.75 × comfort − 0.75 × rain/snow discomfort. If some items in the order never arrive, the review loses a random 0.5-1 star. If nothing arrives at all, the dish part and service count as 0, so the review ends at 1 star. A customer whose order was never taken gives only 0.6-2 stars. Each review is then rounded to a whole number of stars from 1 to 5 (randomly, by the fraction), so the average stays the same.
Venue popularity
Popularity = (0.6 × best item's satisfaction² + 0.3 × review score² + 0.1 × menu variety + 0.01 × level + 0.1 × venue comfort) × story factor. Review score = 0.5 + confidence × (average stars − 3) ÷ 4. Variety counts ×1.3 when the menu has both meals and drinks. Venue comfort here is the average comfort ÷ 3 of the placed furniture with comfort 1 or more, not the comfort in reviews. The story factor is 1 unless story choices raised or lowered it.
